The Scotland heat of the IOM3 Young Persons Lecture Competition took place on Wednesday 26th February at St Andrew's University. The judges were treated to four excellent presentations.
First up was Hamish Dow from the University of Strathclyde who spoke about a method for automating the visual inspection of concrete structures. He was followed by Tinashe Mazarire, also from the University of Strathclyde. His topic was the hydrogen embrittlement of aluminium alloys. Stuart Munro represented the University of St Andrews. His presentation summarised his time working at Aberdeen Minerals exploring the Arthrath deposit. Finally, Wei Dou from the University of Dundee talked about the computer modelling of flow during the continuous casting of metals.
The judges agreed that Hamish Dow should be invited to represent Scotland at the UK final on Thursday 8th May at The Armourers’ Hall in London.
